Pricing of Art and Collectibles in the
Companion Parrot Online Collectibles Section

By Sally Blanchard

I try to give customers the best prices that I can on the Collectibles and Art on the Companion Parrot Online Website. I do a lot of research to determine the most reasonable price that I can.

For example, if I find that the average price of an item in various on-line sources is $30.00, then depending on its size and weight I will usually charge $30 for the item including shipping and handling to the U.S.A. However if the item is large and/or heavy I will need to add an additional cost for shipping/handling.

If the item is expensive and needs to be insured, I will also add the cost of the insurance to protect both myself and the seller. In this situation, you may be able to find the item for sale elsewhere for $30 but the seller will add shipping/handling/insurance cost and the item can then cost a total of $45 to $50. I may charge $40 to $45 for the item but that is the final cost to the buyer.

Shipping has increased dramatically in the last few years and if an item is heavy, the cost of shipping may actually be as high as the cost of the item. On most sales sites, items are priced and shipping is added to that price at the time of purchase. I think it is easier for people to know the total cost of the item when they purchase it. Sometimes the shipping costs can be quite a surprise but with the items on the Companion Parrot Online Collectible's Pages, there is no surprise with additional costs.

Please also notice that I will negotiate on certain items and I also will provide monthly payments with the item to be sent when payment is completed. Monthly payments must be made and that can be worked out through e-mail.

Some of my research includes:

1. What I paid for the item when I bought it. Some items have increased in value while others have decreased.

2.
The price as listed on three pricing websites that show what the item sold for in the past by year. I will choose prices that are within the range of the items sold most recently. There has been a slight increase in most items from when the economy tanked in 2007-2008 but some items haven't increased in price from before that time.

3.
The price as listed on various sales sites. I may not take the lowest price on something, not will I charge the highest price. I usually price at a reasonable compromise. If you find an item priced at a much lower price, please let me know.

4. With some items, there are simply no guidelines for the price that I can find. With those collectibles and artwork, I have to take my experience of collecting parrot and wild bird items to determine a price. In real

5. I also take the condition of the piece into consideration when pricing items. Both before I put an item online and before I ship it I check for the condition to make sure there is nothing I missed. Many of the collectible items I am selling have previously been used or displayed. If there are obvious flaws, I will point them out in the description.
